Cmaj7 (Root 6)
In the previous chord shapes given an x above a string indicated that it was to be deadened. An x above a string may also indicate that the string is not to be played at all. Depending upon which shape is being played you may decide to deaden or simply avoid hitting that string.
In the root 5 Cmaj7 shape given you may wish to avoid hitting the 6th string and deaden the first string with your fourth finger. If you want to deaden the 6th string as well, you can achieve this by using the tip of the first finger. This may be difficult to master at first but is a worthwhile technique to develop.
