LESSON TWO

Rock Fills Around The Drum Kit With Quarter Notes, Eighth Notes and Sixteenth Notes

To play these fills effectively, you will need to master the "FLAM."

A flam is when you hit the drum with both sticks almost at the same time.

The stick that strikes the drum FIRST, must be a QUIET hit and is called a GRACE note.

The stick that strikes the drum LAST, must be a LOUDER hit and is called the PRINCIPAL note. These two hits must be close enough together that they create one sound. Play each of these examples through eight times with the "BEATS FILLS AND SOLOS" C.D.

Example of Alternating Right and Left FLAMS with bass drum inbetween

Play each of the following Fills through four times with the"BEATS FILLS AND SOLOS"C.D.
