Rolling the 3rd Finger

Lesson 6/59 | Study Time: 5 Min
Rolling the 3rd Finger

Rolling the 3rd Finger

You have already learned the technique of rolling the left hand first finger across the strings to play consecutive notes with the same finger. It is also common to do this with other fingers, particularly the third.

In the example below it is necessary to play the last two notes in bar 2 with the third finger. This is done by flattening the end of the finger across both the 3rd and 4th strings at the 10th fret. Pick the note on the 3rd string and then roll the finger back onto it#s tip on the 4th string. Then pick the note on the 4th string. Practice this technique for a short time each day until you have control of it. This may take some time but stick with it, as this is an essential lead guitar technique. Once you can do it with the third finger, learn to do it with the second and fourth fingers as well.
