The first thing I would like to introduce in this book is the Blues scale. First look at the minor pentatonic scale, which was thoroughly dealt with in the book Progressive Blues Lead Guitar Method. Here it is in the key of E.
The Blues scale contains one new note - the flat fifth note of the major scale (see lesson 18 of Progressive Blues Lead Guitar Method). If you add this note to the minor pentatonic, the Blues scale is formed.
Run through the fingering of the E Blues scale until you are comfortable with it.
Here are some licks to help you become familiar with the E Blues scale. The first lick is played on the treble strings.
This example is the same lick as the previous except it is played on the bass strings.
