This book comes with a compact disc that includes all the examples in the book. There are two versions of the CD – one for Alto or Baritone sax (Eb), and one for Tenor or Soprano (Bb). The book shows you the notes, fingerings and techniques, and the recording lets you hear how each example should sound.
Practice the examples slowly at first, gradually increasing the tempo. Once you are confident you can play an example evenly without stopping the beat, try playing along with the recording. You will hear a hi-hat cymbal count-in at the beginning of each example, to lead you into the example and to help you keep time. To play along with the CD your saxophone must be in tune with it. To learn how to tune your sax to the CD see page 13. A small diagram of a compact disc with a number as shown below indicates a recorded example. The first track on the CD is the G note used for tuning on page 13. Once you are in tune with this note, you will be able to play along with the CD.
