Notes on the Second String

Lesson 3/62 | Study Time: 5 Min
Notes on the Second String

Notes on the Second String

This example contains the notes B, C and D on the second string. Name the notes out loud as you play until you can recognize them instantly. It is also important to count, as this helps keep your rhythm strong and steady. It is a good idea to practice playing all examples twice, naming notes the first time and counting the second time.

Troubleshooting

  • Make sure your guitar is in tune.
  • Watch the music, not your fingers.
  • Concentrate on learning the notes, rather than memorizing the piece. To do this, play very slowly, naming each note as you play it.
  • Remember to use the correct left hand fingering: first finger for first fret notes, and third finger for third fret notes.

The following pieces use all the notes you have learned on both the first and second strings. Remember to practice naming the notes out loud as you play.
