In Lesson 3 we began writing chord symbols above songs. A chord is a group of notes that are played together. Chords are used to play along with the melody of a song. The first chord you will learn is the C major chord, usually just called the C chord.
On keyboards, it is possible to play chords using only one finger. Most electronic keyboards can be grouped into one of 3 types and each type has a slightly different way of playing one fingered chords.
If you have a Yamaha keyboard, find the auto bass chord section and select the single-finger position.
If you have a Casio keyboard, find the Casio-chord section and select the on position.
If you have another type of keyboard, look in your owner’s manual to see how to play single finger chords.
Press the C key (as shown on the diagram) with the thumb of your left hand. You are now playing a C chord. Hear how different the C chord sounds from the C note you learned in Lesson 1. Place a chord sticker on this key.
