Master Class No. 1

Lesson 11 introduces the first of three Master Classes which will appear throughout this book. In each Master Class you will have the opportunity to revise the chords, rhythms and techniques discussed in recent lessons.

Shiftin' Gears is a Blues~Rock progression which features many of the important points learnt earlier. The rhythm pari uses both the Major and Minor bar chords. The lead guitar part uses techniques such as the hammer, pull-off, slide and bend.

Before tackling the rhythm pari to Shiftin' Gears, revise the following Major and Minor bar chords which are used in the chord progression.

Chords used in Shiftin' Gears

A triplet rhythm counted as 1 and ah, 2 and ah, 3 and ah, 4 and ah, is used for Shiftin' Gears.

The lead guitar part to Shiftin' Gears is played completely within lead guitar pattern one. Left hand techniques such as the hammer, pull-off, slide and bend are used throughout the solo.
