INTRODUCTION

Lesson 2/52 | Study Time: 5 Min
INTRODUCTION

This book takes a unique approach to learning blues lead guitar. Instead of using many different scales and keys, Progressive Blues Lead Guitar Method takes the most common scale used in blues - the minor pentatonic scale - and uses it immediately to make music.

The scale is taken through all possible fingerings in the one key, making it possible to play fluently over the entire range of the guitar. Other keys are introduced later in the book, but only after the fretboard has been mastered.

All the important blues techniques such as bending notes, slides, and vibrato are covered, using classic blues examples. Again, learning the techniques is confined to the pentatonic scale at this stage because in blues playing what you do with the notes is much more important than how many different notes you play.

Other scales, arpeggios and blues rhythm guitar techniques will be covered in subsequent books. The actual "Blues scale" is covered in the book Progressive Blues Guitar Technique. The minor pentatonic scale is the most basic scale used in Blues and should be mastered first.

Anyone who successfully completes this book will be well on the way to becoming an excellent blues lead guitarist.
