Memorizing and Visualizing

As you can see from the variety of licks and solos throughout the book it is possible to sound quite good using just this one common pentatonic scale, but now the real fun begins! Try to memorize each solo by learning one phrase at a time and be sure to get all the techniques such as Bends and Releases, Slides, Slight Bends ( 1/4 tone), Hammer-ons, Pull-offs and Trail-offs. As well as the notes you play, it is largely how and where these techniques are used which determine how good your playing sounds.

A few useful hints for memorising solos and transcribing;

As you listen to a solo, close your eyes and try to picture all the notes you hear as they would appear on the fretboard. This is called visualizing.
Try singing along with the solo as you hear it. (Singing is the memory link between your brain and your hands.)
Try playing the solo by yourself in time with a metronome. l can’t stress the metronome enough, all serious students should be working with one every day.
