After you become familiar with the 5 forms it is important to be able to combine these forms, usually by sliding along one string either up or down into the next form. Here is a scale pattern which combines various forms with the use of slides. It begins in the G form and passes through the E and D forms, ending in the C form. Watch for changes in the fingering.
This exercise should help you to gain control over the change in fingering on the 3rd string.
