INTRODUCTION

Lesson 2/35 | Study Time: 5 Min
Course: Flute for Kids
INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION

Progressive Flute Method For Young Beginners has been designed to introduce the younger student to the basics of playing the flute and reading music. The book uses original material specifically written to teach particular techniques and combinations of notes, along with well known children’s songs which consolidate everything learned. All songs have been carefully graded into an easy to follow, lesson by lesson format which assumes no prior knowledge of music by the student.

At the beginning of the book, the student is introduced to the basic principles of holding the flute, lip position and sounding a note before tackling playing and music reading. Along the way the student learns note and rest values and the * and ^ time signatures.

The exercises and songs incorporate quarter, half and whole notes and their equivalent rests, along with eighth notes and dotted quarter notes. The student is taught how to read rhythms, and introduced to basic terms such as bar lines, repeat signs and lead-in notes.

The book covers all the natural notes, along with sharps, flats and natural signs. The keys of F and G major are introduced along with their respective major scales. There are also several duets to help the student become confident when playing as part of an ensemble.
