How to Hold the Flute
The correct position for holding the flute is shown in this photograph:
The palm of your left hand faces behind you while the palm of your right hand faces ahead of you. The flute should be supported in four places, as listed:
- The mouthpiece is held gently but firmly against your lower lip.
- The first finger of your left hand supports the middle joint.
- The right thumb is held underneath the flute, opposite your first and second fingers.
- The fourth finger of your right hand helps to balance the flute.
