The flute is made up of three sections – the head joint, the middle joint and the foot joint. These are shown in this photo. Notice the mouthhole on the head joint. Notes are sounded on the flute by blowing air across the mouthhole.
Make sure your flute has all the parts shown in this photo and that there are no cracks or dents in any of the parts. If there are, it will be difficult or even impossible to get a good sound. For this reason you should always be careful not to bump your flute against hard surfaces and to put it away in its case when you are not using it.
