As mentioned in the previous lesson, there is more than one possible version for every note used in music. On the flute, it is often possible to create more than one note using the same fingering.
If you place your fingers in position for an E note and pull the sides of your lips in slightly as you blow (a bit like whistling), you can create an E note which is an octave higher than the one you already know. Don’t worry if you can’t produce this note at first.
Experiment with the position of your lips and the pressure of your breathing. In time you will be able to do it quite easily. The following song uses this higher middle register E note. This E note is written in the fourth space of the treble staff. Notice also the use of both B and Bb in this song.
