Choosing the Right Heads

Lesson 2/37 | Study Time: 5 Min
Choosing the Right Heads

Choosing the Right Heads

There are many different types of drum heads, all designed to give different tones and sounds. Although there are endless combinations, choosing a set of heads to achieve the sound you want is really quite simple. This section suggests popular combinations of heads for the following styles of music.

  • Rock
  • Heavy Metal
  • Funk
  • Blues
  • Jazz
  • Reggae
  • Latin

The drum sound for each of these styles is sampled on the “How To Tune the Drums” C.D.

Each individual drum is played, followed by a short solo around the kit to give the drummer a guide to the overall sound.
