The Slide

After a note is played, the left hand finger fretting the note slides to another fret, maintaining the pressure on the string. The fretting finger must not lift off the string. If played correctly, the note will sound at the fret where the finger stops. A slide is indicated by a straight line and the symbol S.

Determination Rag is a piece that contains many of the chords and techniques studied throughout the book so far. At the end of section three, the instruction D.C. al Coda is written. This means that you play the song again from the beginning until you reach the coda sign (v) and then jump to the second coda sign at the end of the piece.

Radiation Rag is another piece containing many chords and techniques studied earlier in the book. Root five and root six bar chords are used throughout as well as hammer-ons, slides and bass runs.
