Another movable Jazz chord shape commonly used by guitarists is based upon the open C7 chord. This shape can be played anywhere on the fretboard by deadening the 6th string (with the tip of the left hand thumb) and deadening the first string (with the first finger of the left hand). Its root note is on the fifth string as shown in the diagram. Another commonly used shape is illustrated in the second diagram. It is still a root 5 chord and takes its name from the note on the fifth string even though this note is not played.
