As you move through the seven modes of the major scale, the degrees change every time you change modes. The table on the following page lists the degrees for each mode as it relates to the major scale. Once you know these degrees, you can derive seven modes from a major scale in any key.
Here are some examples which move between different modes, along with the chord changes. Example 22.0 is a II V I progression in the key of C. The modes change along with the chords, i.e Dorian (Dm7) - Mixolydian (G7) - Ionian (Cmaj7).
This one uses a I VI II V I progression, and moves between four modes - C Ionian, A Aeolian, D Dorian and G Mixolydian. This is not as complicated as it sounds, because they are all derived from the C Major Scale.
