The following licks are derived from Pattern 5. By now you should be getting used to the idea of finding the same notes in different places on the fretboard. A good way to improve your knowledge of all the patterns is to play the same lick in all of the different patterns.
A combination of these five patterns covers the entire fretboard. The patterns are shown in the following diagram with keynotes indicating the A minor pentatonic scale. To form the A major pentatonic scale, each of th e patterns can be moved down 3 frets. You can also add the additional improvising notes to these patterns as discussed earlier in this lesson.
The following lick uses notes from each of the five patterns you have learned. To be a good lead guitarist you need to be able to move freely between all of these patterns.
