In Progressive Beginner Metal Guitar you were introduced to the Minor Pentatonic pattern 1 and its extension. There are however, five Minor Pentatonic patterns that can be used in Metal guitar.
When these five patterns are joined together they cover the entire fretboard. These patterns are summarized in the following diagrams. You will notice that Pattern 1 extension, as used in the previous lesson is actually part of Pattern 2. The patterns shown here are relative to Pattern 1 in the key of A.
A combination of these five patterns covers the entire fretboard as such: The patterns are shown in the following diagram with key notes indicating the A minor pentatonic scale.
Example 15 is played within Minor Pentatonic pattern 3.
Minor Pentatonic pattern 4 is used next.
Example 17 is an ascending that uses patterns 1 - 4.
Example 18 is played solely within pattern 4.
Patterns 4 and 5 in A Minor Pentatonic are used for the next four licks.
