Suspended Chords

Lesson 2/52 | Study Time: 5 Min
Suspended Chords

Suspended Chords

Another type of chord used frequently in Rock is the Suspended chord (abbreviated "sus"). Suspended chords can also be referred to as Suspended Fourth Chords. For example, the Asus, Dsus and Esus shown below will sometimes be seen written as Asus4. Dsus4 and Esus4.

The extra note in each chord shown as an open circle belongs to the Major chord. In most instances you may find it useful to finger this note as well.

Asus

Dsus

Esus

The following chord progression uses the above suspended chords with a two bar rhythm. The symbol C placed between two bars will indicate an exact repeal of the previous two bars.
