In order to achieve the correct sound for the sixteenth note rhythm, it is important to strike the correct strings with the right hand. The following photos show approximately which strings are strummed on each part of the rhythm. On each beat of the bar a normal down-strum is used, a normal up-strum is used on the "e", a short down-strum is used for the "and", and a short up-strum for the "ah".
The different strums for each part of the rhythm are illustrated as shown in Example 35.
One application of the sixteenth note rhythm is its use in slow songs such as ballads etc. Most Rock songs which have a noticeably slow tempo will require a sixteenth note rhythm.
Sixteen Year is a slow Rock ballad which uses the sixteenth note rhythm shown in Example 35 and features many chords which have appeared in recent lessons.
