The Shuffle Rhythm
The term “shuffle” means an underlying rhythm constant stream of swung eighth notes (usually played by the rhythm section. The shuffle is one of the most common rhythms used in blues. Listen to the rhythm guitar, bass and drums on the recording in the following example to hear a typical shuffle.
When you are playing over a shuffle, it is common to mix triplets and swung eighth notes in the lead guitar part, as shown in this example.
