In the previous lesson you learned how to combine the sounds of the Blues scale and the dominant seventh arpeggio. A similar effect can be achieved by combining the major pentatonic scale with the Blues scale or the minor pentatonic scale.
It is a good idea to practice both scales in the same form. e.g., ascend through the G form of the major pentatonic scale and descend through the G form of the Blues scale, and then reverse the order as shown in the following example. The better you know the locations of the root notes in the G form, the easier this will be. Work through this process in all five forms.
Here are some licks which combine sounds from the major pentatonic scale and the Blues scale. As with previous licks, analyze each one and transpose it to other keys.
This one works over the last four measures of a 12-Bar Blues progression.
