Single Note Riffs

Single Note Riffs

A single note riff is often incorporated into a Metal rhythm. The following example is a single note riff played mainly on the fifth string.

This example combines the previous riff with an open A power chord. Note: the initials N.C. are an abbreviation for "no chord" meaning no chord shape is fingered with the left hand.

The principle of combining single note riffs with power chords can be applied to a chord progression.
