INTRODUCTION

Lesson 2/30 | Study Time: 5 Min
Course: Blues Drums
INTRODUCTION

The Term "Blues" refers to music which relies melodically upon the Blues Scale. The Blues Scale is one of the most influential series of notes ever created and crosses many stylistic boundaries. Virtually every performing drummer will use the various beats, fills, techniques and knowledge necessary to perform in the Blues idiom. All the important sub-styles are covered, e.g., Slow Blues, Shuffle Grooves, Second Line, Funky Blues etc... and all information is introduced in a progressive format.

Some basic musical knowledge is assumed. (See Progressive Drum Method by Craig Lauritsen). Blues Drumming also features 12 solos in various blues sub-styles. These solos incorporate the various techniques covered within this book.

Here are a few ideas which are important:

  • Play each example at various tempos and various dynamic levels.
  • Experiment with your own ideas as much as possible.
  • Try to bring something of yourself into every musical situation.
  • Have Fun! – Because that’s what it’s all about.

Other Books also available from the author:

  • Progressive Drum Method
  • Progressive Drum Grooves
  • 1 000,000 Drum Grooves
  • Rhythm Section Method for Bass and Drums
  • Rhythm Section Grooves for Bass and Drums
