In lesson 19 you were introduced to Rock licks using triplets and continuous slurs. This technique can also involve the use of an open string, as such:
In this exercise, only the first note is picked. No other note is picked throughout the entire exercise.
Here is another example of an open string slur:
For the A note, you can use either your third or fourth finger.
A technique that is used in conjunction with open string slurring is the fretting of the string with the right hand. The following photograph illustrates how this is done.
In this photo the right hand is pressing behind the third fret.
In this exercise the first note is played by hammering on with the fourth finger.
The right hand can fret any note between the nut and the left hand, so you should experiment with other combinations.
Another technique that can be used with any type of slurring is the bending of the string with the right hand, behind the nut. The following photograph illustrates this (notice the position of the right hand).
Right hand finger presses string down.
