The Flam

The Flam

A flam consists of a grace note () which is tied to a principle note (5). The grace note is played at a lesser volume, fractionally before the principle note. Only the principle note has a specific note value. Examples 238 and 239 feature a flam on beat "4".

Rhythmic variations incorporating snare drum and or bass drum can be created using the rhythmic figure . The following examples feature such variations played with a sixteenth note hi-hat pattern.

Here are the same rhythmic variations with an eighth note hi-hat pattern.

1 bar snare and/or bass drum variations featuring the rhythmic figure and previously covered rhythmic figures.

2 bar patterns featuring a fill over the last 2 beats.
