Shuffle Rhythm

Shuffle Rhythm

The shuffle is a common rhythmic variation based upon the triplet. It is created by omitting the middle note of the triplet, as indicated by the tie.

 

This can also be written as:

A pattern is said to have a shuffle feel when the previous rhythm is played on cymbal or between any two sound sources, e.g., kick and snare.

Rhythmic variations for snare and or bass drum are combined with a shuffle rhythm hi-hat pattern in the following examples.
