Swing Rhythm
The swing rhythm is another commonly used rhythmic variation based upon the triplet. It is used primarily in Jazz music and differs from the shuffle rhythm through its use of quarter notes on beats 1 and 3.
The ride cymbal is the rhythmic foundation for most jazz drumming.
The following examples demonstrate three simple jazz patterns all featuring the swing rhythm on ride cymbal and a foot closed hi-hat on beats 2 and 4.
