The following exercises will demonstrate the use of the open E or open D tunings. The exercises have been written in the key of E, but remember open D tuning can be considered the same as open E.
The exercises will be based upon the open E/D tuning slide scale, and will introduce other notes and chord shapes which may be used.
Exercise 41 shows how two octaves of the Major chord arpeggio can be played almost entirely on the same fret (as indicated by the black dots). Some of the common slides in this position have been used.
Exercise 42 uses some of the double note licks which can be used in this position. Practice this lick on other frets as it can be used for any chord.
Exercise 43 is a relatively simple exercise which displays the use of a full sounding Major bar chord, and how it can be used with a single note lick.
The last exercise in this section uses the main octaves which can be played with the open D/E tuning slide scale.
