12 Bar in C
The following Blues introduces the quarter note rest, OE , which indicates one beat of silence. This is achieved by releasing the pressure of the left hand fingers. The resulting sound is short and detached (called staccato), as compared to the smoother sound of two half notes (called legato). i.e.:
