The Pick
The contact between the right hand and the strings is made with the use of a pick (also called a plectrum), which is held between the thumb and index finger:
1. Index finger curved.
2. Pick placed on index finger with its point about ¼ inch (1cm) past the finger-tip.
3. Thumb clamps down, holding the pick in place.
Picks are usually made of plastic, and come in a variety of different shapes and thickness. (Try a .46 mm light gauge Jim Dunlop.)
