Turnaround Progression No.1

The turnaround is another very important progression for you to become familiar with because, like 12 Bar Blues, it is the basis for many songs (see Appendix Two). In this turnaround, a new chord, E minor, is introduced (the abbreviation "m" is used to indicate a minor chord).

Try the next example using the suggested rhythm pattern and then apply any of the other rhythm patterns introduced in Lesson Three. Remember to repeat the progression, and then finish with a single strum of the first chord (G).

Trouble-Shooting

Note playing can present you with new problems not previously encountered in chord work. The following points should be observed:

Fingers on tips and directly behind frets.
Hold strings firmly against fretboard.
Use correct fingering (first finger - first fret, second finger - second fret, etc.).
Left hand fingers must remain close to the strings at all times; e.g., when an open string is played, your fingers should still be in close proximity.
