Pattern Three - Key of Bb
The licks in Lesson 14 are played within pattern 3. This time the key of Bb has been chosen. The following diagram shows the fretboard position for pattern 3 in the key of Bb. As with pattern two, you will find that the first three strings are mainly used in pattern three. It is still recommended that you memorize and practice all of the notes in pattern three, but as you become more familiar with this pattern you will find you will use the notes on the bass strings far less frequently than the notes found on the first three strings. The most commonly used notes in pattern three have been highlighted in the following diagram.
