Each time a new pattern has been introduced throughout this book, you will have noticed that its position on the fretboard is slightly higher than the previous pattern, i.e., pattern two is slightly higher on the fretboard than the previous pattern, pattern three is higher than pattern two, etc. The final thing to understand with patterns is that pattern five joins up with pattern one again, which joins up with pattern two again, etc. The location of pattern one in relation to pattern five has also been illustrated in the following diagram.
